Product Details

Beautiful set of ten hand-painted Imari porcelain dishes, originally used as small plates for serving Japanese sweets (wagashi).

Dimensions: height 4 cm, diameter 14.5 cm.

They date from the late Meiji to early Taishō period, which you can see in the colour palette, the divided panel decoration and the generous use of gilt.

Each plate has a slightly scalloped, lobed rim and is finished underneath with the typical double blue circles. On top you get the classic Imari décor: fan-shaped panels in iron red and black with gilt leaf motifs, alternating with mint-green roundels and cobalt details. Between the panels run flowering branches – very Japanese, very decorative. In the centre there’s always a red medallion with gold scrolls.

In very good antique condition, only minimal age-related signs of use, no chips.

Perfect to keep using – for dessert, wagashi, small starters or side dishes – but just as strong as interior decoration: grouped on a table, in an open cabinet or on the wall they add instant colour (red/gold/green) and a clear Japanese character.
