Set of 5 Japanese Hagi-yaki Yunomi Tea Cups, 1980s
This set of five Hagi-yaki yunomi tea cups from the 1980s was crafted by the renowned Tsubakihide Kiln (椿秀窯).
Dimensions per cup: height 6 cm, diameter 7.5 cm.
Each cup is handmade, signed underneath, and in perfect condition. This is new old stock.
The cups display a subtle and harmonious gradient of creamy tones to soft beige with gentle pink accents, beautifully enhancing the natural, warm character of the distinctive Hagi clay. The translucent craquelé glaze highlights this delicate palette and gives each cup a unique, refined texture.
The traditional “notched foot” at the base provides stability and contributes to the authentic character of these yunomi.
Hagi-yaki pottery, originating from the city of Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture, is valued for its timeless simplicity and the unique aging process whereby the glaze develops richer textures over time — a phenomenon known as “nanabake,” or “the seven transformations.”
The set comes in its original kiribako, a stylish and protective paulownia wooden box that safely stores these special cups, making the set a valuable gift or collectible.
