Shigaraki Ikebana, Spherical Form with Green Ash Glaze, 1970

This distinctive ikebana vase features a compact, well-balanced spherical form with a subtly recessed opening. Its sculptural shape is both powerful and calm, giving the piece a strong presence even without flowers.

The surface displays a refined interplay of colour and texture: soft, natural green tones with a gentle sheen and fine craquelure, gradually transitioning into earthy beige and warm rust-brown shades towards the base. The vertical ribbing follows the curvature of the vase and enhances its tactile, organic character.

The vase bears an original sticker label marked 信楽焼 (Shigaraki-yaki), indicating Shigaraki ware. The style and finish are characteristic of the 1970s. It comes with its tomobako and accompanying leaflet, as well as a wooden presentation display with gold-coloured calligraphy, suggesting that the piece was originally offered as a gift.

The vase is in perfect condition and functions beautifully today both as an authentic ikebana vessel and as a restrained, atmospheric interior accent.
