Stylish Japanese Hari Bako Sewing Box, 1930s

Japanese wooden hari bako from the Shōwa period.

This charming small piece of furniture was originally used to neatly store sewing and needlework accessories.

Dimensions: height 19 cm, width 26 cm, depth 15.5 cm.

The hari bako is crafted from warm brown wood with a lively grain and features three drawers fitted with dark metal hardware. At the top, an additional storage compartment is concealed beneath a hinged lid.

Today, this compact cabinet works beautifully as a decorative storage piece on a desk, side table or sideboard, ideal for keeping writing accessories, jewellery or other small objects in a stylish way.

Over the years, the wood has developed a warm patina and shows normal signs of age and use.
