Terracotta Fantasy Creature by Michel Herreman
Dimensions: height approx. 33 cm, width approx. 35 cm, depth approx. 50 cm.
An original and unique terracotta artwork by Belgian artist Michel Herreman, conceived as a monumental fantasy creature with a distinctly Surrealist character.
The sculpture stands on four powerful legs and combines animal forms with unexpected elements of human anatomy, including breasts and a double phallus. Its open mouth, raised head and spherical glass eyes give the creature a lively, almost theatrical presence.
The terracotta surface has been deliberately left rough and tactile, retaining clear traces of hand modelling. Dark lines accentuate the different sections of the body, while painted details in gold and purple introduce subtle highlights and additional depth. The glass eyes create a striking contrast with the warm, earthy colour of the fired clay.
Through its combination of humour, estrangement and bodily symbolism, the work moves between figurative ceramics and Surrealist sculpture. New details emerge from every viewing angle, giving the piece a strong presence as an independent work of art.
One of the legs is signed with the artist’s initials, MH.
In excellent condition, without visible cracks or distracting damage.
An expressive and entirely unique Belgian artwork with a playful, provocative and unmistakably Surrealist presence.
