Beautiful wooden Japanese chest of drawers (Tansu) from the Meiji period.
Dimensions: Height 104 cm, Width 97 cm, Depth 43 cm
This elegant piece of furniture consists of two sections and features four spacious drawers along with two smaller ones, all decorated with intricate metal lockplates and handles.
Originally, this tansu was used as a storage cabinet for clothing, kimonos, and accessories.
Metal transport handles on the sides provide the piece with both an authentic and functional look.
Over the years, the chest has developed a stunning patina, adding to its historical charm. Originally, the top section of this tansu had doors, as seen in the photos.
The undersides of both sections feature hand-painted signatures in Japanese calligraphy (Kanji).
