Product Details

A richly decorated Japanese creative kokeshi from the 1970s, crafted by the award-winning artist Kazuo Takamizawa.

Dimensions: H 32 × Ø 10 cm.

The wooden figure features a deep dark-brown hairstyle with a rounded topknot, adorned with delicate pyrographed motifs.

The colourful kimono is finished in warm shades of orange, red and cream. Graceful black cranes (tsuru), white blossoms and delicate leaf motifs form a lively composition. The richly decorated obi features a geometric pattern in green, golden yellow and pink.

In Japanese culture, cranes symbolise longevity, good fortune and prosperity.

The original red maker's seal (hanko) is located on the underside.

In lovely vintage condition, with minor signs of age.

A particularly decorative and collectible example of Japanese kokeshi art.
