Vintage Japanese Shizenboku Hana-dai / Ikebana Display, c. 1950
A powerful Japanese natural-wood display object with an organic root form, sculptural lines and a flat plateau for ceramics, ikebana or decorative objects.
Dimensions: height approx. 41 cm, width approx. 90 cm, depth approx. 70 cm.
This vintage Japanese shizenboku hana-dai dates from the Shōwa period. The piece is made from a naturally formed root or trunk section, with the original growth pattern, openings, irregular edges and deep wood structure intentionally preserved. Its elongated form gives the object an almost landscape-like presence, with strong horizontal lines and a beautiful contrast between the raw natural sections and the more smoothly finished plateau.
The flat upper surface makes it highly suitable as a display for a low vase, ikebana arrangement, ceramic piece or carefully selected object. The warm reddish-brown wood tones, visible grain and organic hollows give the piece a distinct wabi-sabi character.
Today, this is a striking interior object: at once a pedestal, sculpture and natural decorative element. Beautiful placed on the floor, on a low cabinet, in an entrance hall, shop interior or calm living space, where it immediately adds atmosphere, depth and Japanese simplicity.
