Vintage Japanese wooden transport and storage crate, 1920-1930, Japan.

The crate is made from wood and has a simple, sturdy construction. The outer sides were originally covered with paper, with large Japanese characters and trade markings applied in black ink.

Dimensions: height 51 cm, width 66 cm, depth 40 cm.

Over time and through intensive use, the paper has become worn, torn and partially lost in several areas, revealing the wood beneath. The combination of weathered paper, bold calligraphy and the natural wood grain gives the crate a particularly authentic and timeworn appearance.

A characterful Japanese utilitarian object that can now be used beautifully as a storage crate, low table or display piece, and fits especially well in a wabi-sabi or industrial interior.
