Product Details

A minimalist Japanese display bench featuring an open slatted top, warm wood tones, and a calm architectural design.

Dimensions: height 40 cm, width 74 cm, depth 33.5 cm.

This vintage Japanese display bench dates from the Shōwa period and has a particularly restrained, functional appearance. The top is constructed from long parallel wooden slats with open spacing in between, supported by sturdy straight legs and simple cross stretchers. The construction is clearly and honestly visible, giving the piece a strong minimalist presence.

The wood has a warm medium-brown tone with visible grain patterns, subtle discoloration, and darker traces of wear at the ends of the slats. This patina adds character without disturbing the clean lines of the design. Thanks to its open structure, the bench feels visually light, while its solid construction makes it highly functional.

Today, this is a beautiful display piece for a contemporary interior. Ideal for ceramics, ikebana, books, a plant, or a carefully selected sculptural object. Used as a low bench in an entrance hall, beneath a window, or beside a sober wall, it brings warmth, rhythm, and Japanese simplicity into the space.

The bench remains sturdy and fully functional, with wear and patina consistent with age and use.
