Vintage Kokeshi 'Mino' by Shūho, 1970s
This kokeshi doll was created by Japanese artist Shūho (秋帆), active during the 1970s.
Dimensions: Height 12.5 cm, base diameter 7 cm. In very good condition, with signature on the bottom.
The doll features a quiet, minimalist expression, with delicately painted eyes and a small red mouth. The hand-painted design likely represents a traditional Japanese rain mantle — a mino — a straw cloak once worn in rural Japan for protection against the elements. Warm brown tones are layered with vertical black strokes reminiscent of bamboo, while a yellow bow adds a gentle highlight to the composition. The smooth, tapered shape and restrained palette underscore its serene presence.
A piece of Japanese folk art with quiet symbolism, ideal for lovers of sōsaku kokeshi, wabi-sabi aesthetics, or Japanese cultural heritage.
