Vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa, 1980s

Rare vintage sōsaku kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa, a highly regarded Japanese kokeshi artist. The wooden doll has an elegant, elongated form with a large black hairstyle and a decorative raised hair element on top, typical of his expressive style. The face is finely and serenely detailed, with subtle eye lines and a small red mouth.

Dimensions: height 31 cm, diameter 11 cm.

The red kimono is richly decorated with floral motifs in gold, black and silver-toned accents. The pattern combines elegant flowers with graphic, almost embroidered lines, giving the doll a warm yet refined presence. Its tall silhouette and deep colour palette make this piece especially decorative.

A distinctive collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, beautiful as a striking Japanese interior accent or as an addition to a refined collection.

Signed on the underside, marked with the original label, and dated 21 February 1982.

Condition: very good vintage condition with minimal signs of use; well preserved and decoratively very strong.
