Vintage Shigaraki Ikebana Vase – Japan, 1970
A characterful, hand-formed Shigaraki vase from the 1970s, featuring an organic, rounded shape with a narrow opening – ideally suited for minimalist ikebana arrangements or as a sculptural accent in a serene interior.
Dimensions: Height 21 cm, Diameter 19 cm. The potter’s signature is inscribed on the base.
The vase displays the distinctive natural color palette of Shigaraki ware: warm earthy tones ranging from rust brown to sandy beige, rich in texture and subtle variation. Its surface is speckled with random white ash deposits (goma) and soft glaze highlights – the result of traditional wood firing, a process that lends each piece a unique, unrepeatable character.
An elegant and calming piece, perfect for a solitary display, holding a single branch or flower in ikebana style, or serving as a minimalist centerpiece.
The earthy hues and raw surface texture make it a striking object in any wabi-sabi or Japanese-inspired living space.
