This kokeshi by Sanpei Yamanaka is stunning in its simplicity.

The body is adorned with a beautiful leaf motif.

Dimensions: height 19 cm, diameter 6 cm. The kokeshi bears a signature on the bottom.

Born in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture, Yamanaka-san began his artistic career as a photographer after studying chemistry. Drawing on his background in art, Yamanaka-san joined the Sosaku Kokeshi movement. A multiple award winner, he received the Ministry of Education Prize at the All Nippon Modern Kokeshi Exhibition in 1979.
