Vintage Tanuki Figurine – Japan, 1960s

Charming and traditional ceramic figure of a tanuki – the mythical Japanese raccoon dog known for symbolizing good fortune, abundance, and cheerfulness. Tanuki statues are often placed at the entrance of homes or shops to invite prosperity.

This piece is beautifully detailed, featuring a red vest, sake flask, round belly, and a joyful expression. The straw hat – secured with a braided cord around the neck – is removable, which is a relatively rare feature in such figurines.
