Rare Set of Large Dentō Kokeshi, Tōgatta-kei, Japan
These large and elegant kokeshi dolls date from the 1980s–1990s and are signed in black ink on the base.
Dimensions: height 46 cm, diameter 12 cm. In beautiful vintage condition.
They are crafted in the traditional Tōgatta-kei style, originating from Zao-machi in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
The faces are delicately painted with fine lines, showing a calm and modest expression, arched eyebrows, and small red mouths.
The black hairstyle with a comb-shaped hairline and red brush accents is typical of this style.
Both dolls are richly decorated all around with stylised floral motifs: one in deep black tones, the other in bright red with contrasting green.
The backs are also finely adorned, adding visual harmony and a refined finish to the set.
An authentic and well-balanced pair that combines traditional elegance with warm decorative charm.
