Product Details

This elegant Japanese low table combines deep black lacquer with exceptionally refined chinkin decoration (沈金): finely incised lines filled with gold. The motif features stylised pine needles (matsuba), arranged in a rhythmic, graphic pattern that forms a golden frame around the tabletop. In Japan, the pine is a classic symbol of steadfastness, longevity, and elegance. The overall effect is both serene and powerful, with a distinctly luxurious presence.

Dimensions: height 33 cm, width 151 cm, depth 90.5 cm.

A separate glass top sits above the lacquer to protect the surface. Both the lacquered tabletop and the glass show light signs of use consistent with age, but these are not distracting in everyday use and leave the character of the piece fully intact. The low, understated legs keep the silhouette clean and allow the decorative surface to take centre stage.

Traditionally, tables of this kind served as the central low table for tea, meals, and receiving guests, seated on cushions around the table. Today, this piece works beautifully as a generous coffee table or as a display table for books and objects—an elegant statement in a refined interior.

A gold-lacquered signature is present on the tabletop.
