Vintage Kokeshi by Miyashita Hajime, 1970s–80s, Japan

An elegant Japanese creative kokeshi from the late Shōwa period, crafted by the award-winning artist Miyashita Hajime.

Dimensions: H 25 × Ø 7 cm.

The slender wooden figure has a refined silhouette, with smooth, deep black hair that contrasts beautifully with the richly decorated kimono.

The deep red kimono is adorned with carved blossom motifs and finely incised geometric patterns. The interplay of deep carvings, delicate textured details and smooth floral shapes gives the surface a distinctive sense of depth. Subtle green accents complete the composition.

The original Japanese label on the underside bears the name of Miyashita Hajime and refers to his prestigious awards, including the Japanese Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award.

In lovely vintage condition, with minor signs of age.
