Antique Japanese Loom Weights, Wooden Decoration, 1900s
Characterful set of eleven wooden loom weights from Japan, originally used on a traditional weaving loom from the Meiji period.
Dimensions per element: height 33 cm, diameter 4 cm.
Each weight is hand-shaped from solid wood and tied together with beautifully aged rope. Years of use have given the wood a deep, warm patina, with discolouration and age marks that create exactly the kind of wabi-sabi character collectors love.
Once these weights were used to keep the warp threads of the loom under tension; today they make a striking decorative object. Beautiful casually placed on a sideboard or table, but also very atmospheric when hung from a hook, on a wall rack, or used as a sculptural accent in a creative studio or textile workshop.
An intriguing piece of textile history that effortlessly combines functionality with pure, timeworn aesthetics.
