Product Details

A charming figure of Daikokuten, one of Japan’s Seven Lucky Gods.

Dimensions: height 17 cm, width 18 cm, depth 7 cm.

Daikokuten raises his wish-granting mallet, the uchide no kozuchi. Beside him, a rat looks up at him. The mallet symbolises prosperity; the rat is his traditional companion and a symbol of fertility.

The coarse Shigaraki clay shows a lively interplay of grey ash marks, warm reddish-brown tones and pale mineral flecks, formed during wood firing.

A playful piece full of character, beautiful on a shelf or among other ceramics.

In perfect condition.

The irregularity beneath the base formed during firing and is not visible when the figure is displayed.
