Japanese Earthenware Planter / Decorative Pot, 1960s
A large Japanese earthenware pot with a sober, organic form and a warm, natural presence.
Dimensions: height 32 cm, diameter 40 cm.
Weight: 9 kg.
The pot is made of earthenware with a reddish-brown, unglazed exterior. The surface shows subtle speckling and small natural irregularities, allowing the character of the clay to remain beautifully visible. The wide rounded rim and gently tapering body give the object a calm, strong presence.
The interior is glazed in warm earthy tones, ranging from honey brown and ochre to deeper olive-brown shades. The glaze moves vividly across the surface, creating a beautiful contrast with the more matte and tactile exterior. There is no signature or marking on the underside.
Today, this pot works beautifully as a sculptural planter, large cachepot or decorative ceramic object in a refined interior. The soft earth tones and handcrafted finish give the piece a strong Japanese wabi-sabi character.
In beautiful vintage condition, with normal signs of use and light wear consistent with age and use. Solid, decorative and highly atmospheric.
