Japanese Koboku Root Wood Sculpture / Ikebana Object, 1960s
A powerful Japanese koboku object made from natural root wood, with a distinctly organic form and a warm, earthy presence.
Dimensions: height 51 cm, width 39 cm, depth 30 cm.
The root wood has a rugged, sculptural shape with openings, knots and dark natural markings throughout the surface. In several places, small stones are still caught between the roots, giving the object a raw and original character.
This type of natural wood was used in Japan as a decorative element for flower arranging, ikebana settings and interior displays. Today, it works beautifully as a sculptural object in its own right, but also as a base for a quiet composition with dried flowers, branches, ceramics or stone.
The warm honey-brown colour, rough texture and irregular lines give the piece a strong wabi-sabi presence. A unique natural object that brings calm, material depth and movement into a contemporary interior.
