Japanese Wooden Display Board, Wabi-Sabi Piece, 1930s

This atmospheric wooden object from Japan most likely once served as the lid of a large barrel or wooden tub.

Dimensions: height 7 cm, width 45 cm, depth 45 cm.

The gently curved board is made from wide planks with a deep, warm wood tone. Over the years the surface has developed a beautiful patina with rich variation in colour and texture. The underside is fitted with crossbars, giving the piece a low, stable base that lifts it slightly off the floor.

In an interior this piece works perfectly as a wabi-sabi display: use it as a podium for an ikebana arrangement, a vase with branches, ceramics, candles or a small sculpture. Placed on the floor under a plant or beside a low table, it instantly brings Japanese atmosphere and a sense of calm simplicity to the room.
