Vintage Usaburo Kokeshi “Nekoyanagi”, 1970s–1980s

Elegant vintage kokeshi “Nekoyanagi” by Usaburo Kokeshi. The name refers to the Japanese willow, reflected in the refined botanical decoration on the body. The slender wooden doll has a warm natural wood surface, a dark rounded hairstyle and a calm face with fine eye lines and a subtle red mouth.

Dimensions: height 31 cm, diameter 11 cm.

The body is hand-decorated with graceful willow branches and lightly shimmering accents, beautifully contrasting with the natural wood grain. The elongated form, soft colour palette and botanical motif give this kokeshi a serene, almost poetic presence.

A characterful collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, also beautiful as a refined decorative accent in a stylish interior. Marked with a label on the underside and a partly faded signature on the body.

Condition: light signs of use consistent with age; well preserved and decoratively strong.
