Product Details

This unusual Japanese wooden hibachi frame dates from the Meiji period and was originally used horizontally on the floor as a surround for a hibachi. The fire vessel, or hibachi, was placed in the central square opening.

Dimensions: height 4 cm, width 99 cm, depth 99 cm.

The object is constructed from wide wooden planks with a deep dark-brown to almost black patina. Age, use and wear have beautifully marked the surface: scratches, colour variations, old holes, visible wood grain and softly worn areas give the piece an exceptionally authentic presence.

Today, this hibachi frame works especially well as a strong interior and styling object. It can be placed soberly against a wall, used as a graphic element in a minimalist interior, or mounted as a unique wall statement. The central opening, square format and aged wood structure give the object an almost abstract, sculptural presence.

In good antique condition, with clear signs of use, patina and natural ageing consistent with age and original function.

A rare and highly decorative Japanese object that immediately adds depth, stillness and character to a stylish contemporary interior.

Shipping & pickup: pickup in Antwerp possible; worldwide shipping on request.
