Traditional, handcrafted wooden rice measure, 'Itomasu', made from sturdy wooden slats and thick metal bands.

This itomasu bucket features wooden handles and authentic stamped markings. Over the years, it has developed a unique patina, adding an authentic touch to any stylish interior. The wooden bucket is perfect as an original plant stand.
Used as a standard unit (one masu) - this bucket was a standard measure used by rice shops throughout Japan during the late Meiji and Taisho eras. It held approximately 18 liters or 40 pounds of rice. The side bears a stamp with the rice shop's name, along with additional smaller stamps from government officials who verified and approved the bucket as an exact standard unit - one itomasu.
