Antique Japanese Kimono Hanger, Black Lacquer Ikō with Cranes, 1920s
This piece is distinctly graphic and luxurious: a high-gloss black ikō that folds open into two sections around the central hinges.
Dimensions: height 144 cm, width 73 cm x 2, depth 3 cm.
An elegant silver-grey scrolling vine with floral accents runs along the top rails and uprights, creating a beautiful contrast against the deep black lacquer. The wide base panels are decorated with a refined crane-and-reed landscape on a gold-speckled ground; the stylised water lines add rhythm and depth to the composition.
Even without textiles it reads as a sculptural object with strong presence, but with a kimono, noragi or quilt it becomes an immediate, museum-like display.
Condition: good, honest condition with normal signs of use and light wear/small marks to the lacquer and decoration consistent with age (see photos).
Shipping & pickup: pickup in Antwerp possible; worldwide shipping on request.
