Antique Japanese Tansu Chest, Storage Cabinet, 1910s

Antique Japanese tansu with two wide drawers and traditional dark iron hardware. Japan, late Meiji period.
Dimensions: H 51 cm, W 95.5 cm, D 42 cm.

The understated wooden chest is fitted with four curved handles, decorative lock plates and protective metal corner fittings. Carrying handles are also present on the sides, originally designed to make the tansu easier to move. One side handle is missing.

Over time, the old wood has developed a deep, warm patina that contrasts beautifully with the dark iron fittings and enhances the authentic character of the piece.

Thanks to its low height, this tansu works beautifully today as a display piece or low side table. Ideal for presenting an ikebana arrangement, ceramics, a decorative bowl or small art objects, while adding a refined Japanese accent to a contemporary interior.

Good antique condition with visible signs of age and use consistent with its age.
