Japanese Low Tansu / Chest of Drawers, Shōwa Period, 1910s

The cabinet is made from warm wood with a beautiful dark patina and black metal fittings. Its simple rectangular form, two wide drawers, round iron handles, decorative lock plates and corner mounts give the piece a quiet yet strong Japanese presence.

Thanks to its low format, this tansu is highly versatile. Beautiful as a low sideboard, storage cabinet, TV unit, display piece or as a base for plants, ceramics, books and Japanese objects. The wide drawers offer practical storage, while the top surface works perfectly as a decorative display area.

The piece is in good condition and has a beautifully aged appearance, with normal signs of use and age, including small scratches, discoloration, and patina to the wood and metal. There are some visible old restorations, and one handle on the side is missing. This is not disturbing and adds to the authentic character and charm of the piece.
