Antique Masu Box Japan, 1910

Beautiful antique wooden masu box from Japan, dating back to the early 20th century. The wooden box is branded on all sides and features metal reinforcements on the corners, as well as a diagonal metal carrying handle.

A lovely interior item that can also serve as an original plant stand or magazine holder.

Masu boxes are traditional Japanese measuring containers (Itomasu) that were originally used to measure rice. They came in various sizes and were used when paying land taxes to the lord, often in the form of goods such as rice and salt, or when cooking rice and barley.
