Historic Architectural Ornament with Male Head, c. 1900, Kingdom of Hungary
A remarkable historic architectural ornament dating from 1890–1915, originating from the former Kingdom of Hungary, in present-day Romania.
Dimensions: H 22.5 × W 13 × D 14 cm
Originally part of the architectural decoration of an old building, this expressive male head is sculpted in deeply projecting relief, featuring distinctive facial characteristics, a moustache, a pointed goatee and an elegantly draped neckerchief. Its warm earthy tones, weathered surface and beautiful patina give the piece an authentic sculptural presence.
Traces of a historical heritage stamp remain visible on the reverse. Following extensive research and comparison with other objects bearing more complete impressions, we were able to reconstruct the stamp as D.C.C.P.C.N. Timiș. This marking refers to the former Romanian regional authority for culture and national heritage, adding a fascinating historical dimension to the object.
A unique architectural fragment with a rich past, beautifully suited as a sculptural interior accent or decorative art object in a contemporary setting.
The ornament shows visible signs of age, localised wear and minor losses, consistent with its age and original architectural function.
