Japanese Tansu Chest, Storage & Display Piece, 1910s
This authentic Japanese tansu chest dates from around the 1910s and was originally used to store textiles, kimono and accessories neatly and securely.
Dimensions: height 50 cm, width 90 cm, depth 39 cm.
The chest features two spacious drawers and two smaller drawers. The fronts are finished with elegant, understated lock plates (no key) and sturdy iron pulls. The wood shows a lively grain and a warm, timeworn patina, with honest traces of use that add depth and character. The sides are equally appealing, fitted with solid carry handles that make the piece easy to move.
Thanks to its low, wide proportions, this tansu also works beautifully as a contemporary display piece. Style it with ikebana, ceramics, art books, or a curated selection of objects, and it instantly creates a calm, natural base. It suits a minimalist interior perfectly, yet feels just as at home in an eclectic setting—where the combination of wood, patina and iron brings atmosphere on its own.
