Japanese Awase Kagami Mirror Set, 1990s, Japan

A charming set of two hand mirrors with a folding stand, preserved in its original box.

Dimensions: nested together, 26 cm high, 13 cm wide and 2 cm deep.

This 'awase kagami' is made of plastic with a lacquered finish. The mirrors fit together and can be used as a pair to see the back of your head: one rests on the stand while you hold the other. The vermilion back is decorated with delicate autumn flowers and grasses in green, cream and gold-toned lines. Lovely on a dressing table or sideboard, and still practical to use.

In good vintage condition, with minor signs of use. The mirror with the black handle shows age-related marks on the mirror surface along part of the edge, as shown in the photographs.
