Japanese Bamboo Harvest Basket, 1960s

Traditional Japanese harvest basket, handwoven from bamboo. Japan, Shōwa period.
Dimensions: H 12 cm, W 55 cm, D 55 cm.

The broad, low form with rounded corners and open weave gives the basket a distinctly graphic and decorative presence. The sturdy woven rim and reinforced underside reflect the functional craftsmanship with which baskets of this type were made.

Over time, the bamboo has developed warm brown tones and a beautiful natural patina, giving the piece plenty of character.

Today, it works beautifully as an authentic Japanese interior accent, for example as a low fruit basket or for displaying small objects.

Good vintage condition with normal signs of age consistent with its age and original use.
