Product Details

This Japanese bronze vase dates from the Shōwa period, around the 1960s–1970s. The piece has a strong octagonal form, with a broad shoulder, faceted neck and deep green-black patina that gives it an aged, almost archaeological presence.

Dimensions: height 19 cm, diameter 16 cm.

The surface is richly decorated with a relief design of dragons among clouds, known in Japan as an unryū motif. The dragon moves vertically across the body of the vase, surrounded by stylised clouds and flowing lines. Around the neck are small floral relief details, adding a subtle decorative rhythm to the angular form.

The vase comes with its accompanying wooden tomobako. The inscriptions refer to a bronze flower vase or flower object, with the maker’s signature and seal. The underside of the vase also bears a maker’s mark.

Today, this piece works beautifully as an ikebana vase, small sculptural object or decorative accent on a cabinet, pedestal or low table.

The combination of bronze, green patina, dragon motif and restrained scale gives the vase a strong Japanese presence in a minimalist, natural or eclectic interior.

A characterful Japanese bronze object with depth, graphic strength and a refined decorative quality.
