Japanese Butsudan 仏壇 "Buddhist altar", 1930s

This kind of small altar was found in temples and houses in Japanese Buddhist culture.
Inside the wooden cabinet with doors, a Gohonzon or religious icon was kept and protected , usually a statue or painting of a Buddha or Bodhisattva.
The primary use of the butsudan is to pay respects to the Buddha, as well as family members who have passed away.

A traditional and authentic object with drawer at the bottom and lined inside with golden paper.

Dimensions: height 60.5 cm, width 36 cm, depth 28.5 cm.
