Product Details

This Japanese stand was traditionally used to present a jubako (stacked lacquer food box) or a serving vessel in a formal, ceremonial way.

Dimensions: height 18 cm, width 33 cm, depth 33 cm.

The stand has a low, wide profile with an elegant openwork cut-out on each side, giving it a light, architectural presence. The exterior is decorated with gold kamon crests, a refined detail that immediately adds a sense of tradition and formality.

The finish is particularly striking: the outer lacquer is a rust-brown/red tone with a fine speckled texture, while the interior is a deep, glossy black. At the top sits a removable frame with two finger notches for easy lifting. Set into a recessed field, this insert is designed to position a jubako neatly in the centre and keep it stable during presentation.

Today, the piece also works beautifully as a display stand for ikebana, an incense arrangement, a small sculpture, or as a minimalist serving base within a table setting. It comes with the original wooden tomobako storage box (lid not included).

Condition: good condition with light, age-appropriate wear to the lacquer; solid and stable.
