Product Details

Decorative Japanese wooden wall piece, made by Y. Hayashi and dated 15 January 2000. The work is executed as a relief-like wood inlay composition, built up from various natural wood tones.

Dimensions: height 64 cm, width 39.5 cm, depth 2.5 cm.

The composition shows a large owl perched on a branch, set against a stylised landscape with mountains, horizontal wooden planes and small floral forms at the bottom. The carefully carved feathers and layered construction give the owl a strong decorative and almost sculptural presence.

The reverse states that the work is made from fourteen different types of Hokkaido wood, which are also individually listed on the back. The subject is described as a forest composition with an owl and mizubashō, a Japanese marsh plant often associated with mountain and woodland landscapes. The maker’s name and date are also written on the reverse.

The panel is set in a light wooden frame and fitted with a hanging cord. It is in beautiful vintage condition, with light age-related traces consistent with age, material and use.

A warm and atmospheric Japanese wall object with a strong natural character. Beautiful as a refined interior accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, rustic, vintage, chalet, country or eclectic interior.
