Japanese Wooden Storage Chest ‘Otoko wa Tsurai yo’, 2001

Large Japanese wooden storage chest with characteristic black metal fittings and graphic details from Otoko wa Tsurai yo. Japan, 2001.
Dimensions: H 34 cm, W 44 cm, D 44 cm.

The chest has a warm natural wood tone and is finished with black metal corner fittings and side handles. The front bears the title Otoko wa Tsurai yo, while the lid features a graphic emblem from the well-known Japanese film series.

The box originally formed part of the Otoko wa Tsurai yo VHS Perfect Box; the VHS tapes themselves are not included.

Thanks to its generous square format, the chest is particularly practical today as decorative storage for textiles, magazines, documents or smaller home accessories. It also works beautifully as a low display chest for ceramics, books or other objects.

A characterful Japanese utilitarian object with understated design and a strong graphic presence.
