Japanese Wooden Wall Panels (Door Panels), Set of 2, c. 1890
These authentic Japanese door panels from c. 1890 can be used today as decorative wall panels, bringing instant warmth and a sense of history to any space. Each panel is made from solid wood with a sturdy frame and horizontal slats that create a calm, graphic structure.
Dimensions: height 89 cm, width 88 cm, depth 3 cm (per panel).
The colour is a deep dark brown with near-black tones, with touches of warm reddish-brown that come through beautifully in the grain and along the edges.
Up close, you can see exactly what makes panels like these so appealing: a pronounced grain pattern, subtle shifts in sheen, and small traces of use and wear that give the surface real character. The overall look is strong and understated—equally at home in a minimal Japandi interior or a warmer, more eclectic setting.
Ideal as wall panels: hang them as a diptych, side by side or separately. They also work beautifully simply leaned against a wall, creating an immediate, powerful impact—especially as a backdrop for ceramics, ikebana, or art.
Condition: solid and in good overall condition, with patina and age-appropriate signs of use.
