Original Japanese wooden VHS storage box from Otoko wa Tsurai yo, released in 2001, Japan.

This large wooden box originally formed part of the “Otoko wa Tsurai yo VHS Perfect BOX” by Shochiku, an extensive VHS edition dedicated to the famous Japanese film series centred around Torajirō “Tora-san” Kuruma. The set brought together the long-running film series along with additional bonus material and was originally presented in this distinctive wooden storage box.

Dimensions: height 34 cm, width 44 cm, depth 44 cm.

The box has a warm wood finish and is detailed with black metal corner fittings and metal side handles. The front bears the title Otoko wa Tsurai yo, while the lid is decorated with the large graphic emblem of the series.

The original VHS Perfect BOX was released in Japan in 2001 as a substantial collector’s edition of the popular film series, which began in 1969 and became closely associated with the much-loved character Tora-san.

The VHS's themselves are not included; this listing is for the original wooden storage box only. Thanks to its proportions and distinctive Japanese design, it also works beautifully today as a decorative storage chest, display piece or characterful object in a Japanese or vintage interior.
