Product Details

This long, horizontal ranma panel is carved in openwork technique (sukashibori) and depicts a serene scene of cranes in flight among stylised pine shapes.

Dimensions: height 40 cm, width 171 cm, depth 3 cm.

The design is intentionally restrained: broad, calm forms with crisp cut-outs that create a beautiful interplay of wood, light, and negative space. The wood grain remains fully visible throughout, adding depth and a subtle sense of movement.

The panel is set in a solid wooden frame with a darker, time-worn contrast that nicely highlights the composition.

Traditionally, this type of ranma was installed above sliding doors to let light and air pass through without fully opening up the rooms. Today, it works exceptionally well as wall decor: a statement piece above a low cabinet or sideboard, above a doorway, or as a long accent panel in a minimalist interior. In an eclectic setting, it brings calm and rhythm—along with the story of an authentic Japanese architectural element.

Condition: very good, with light, honest wear and patina consistent with age.

Shipping & pickup: pickup in Antwerp possible; worldwide shipping on request.
