Japanese Silver-Plated Decorative Bowl on Foot, 1870s
This elegant Japanese bowl on foot is a refined example of decorative metalwork from the Meiji period (1868–1912).
Dimensions: height 18.5 cm, diameter 32 cm.
The bowl is richly decorated with finely worked floral motifs, including maple leaves (momiji), scrolling vines, and blossoms, executed in high relief against a densely stippled background. The rim and the transition to the foot are carefully profiled, clearly reflecting the hand-crafted nature of the piece.
Based on its colour, patina, and wear, the object is made of silver-plated metal, most likely a copper or bronze alloy with a silver coating. The subtle discoloration and soft sheen enhance its aged character and attest to its age and authentic use.
In a contemporary interior, this bowl functions effortlessly as an eye-catching statement piece. It is particularly well suited as a fruit bowl, a centerpiece on a table or sideboard, or as an autonomous decorative object in a display cabinet or open space. Thanks to its balanced proportions and rich detailing, it pairs beautifully with both minimalist interiors and warmer, more eclectic settings.
A timeless and characterful object for lovers of Japanese craftsmanship, Meiji design, and decorative pieces with presence and historical depth.
