Yakusugi kokeshi refers to the type of cedar wood in which it is made. Yakusugi trees are slow growing and can only survive in certain conditions, which is why they are classified as protected by the government from 1868. Items made from this wood are quite expensive.
Yakusugi kokeshi are unsigned and are lightweight. They come in pairs.
This pair is in very good condition, this is a very rare find indeed.
