Vintage Japanese Bamboo Basket with Handles, 1950s

Highly decorative vintage Japanese bamboo basket, dating from the 1950s, handwoven in a sturdy rectangular form.

Dimensions: height 39 cm, width 49 cm, depth 32 cm.

The basket is constructed from fine bamboo weaving in warm natural and honey tones, combined with wider bamboo bands that give extra structure and strength to the corners, sides and base.

On both short sides, the basket is fitted with strong integrated handles, made from bent bamboo and finished with decorative wrapping. The interior is spacious and open, with a flat woven base and high sides, making the basket still practical for use today.

With its strong shape, rhythmic weaving and warm natural patina, this basket has a particularly decorative presence. It works beautifully as an interior accent for blankets, textiles, magazines, firewood, plant pots, or simply as a sculptural object in its own right.

The basket is in beautiful vintage condition, with normal signs of age, light wear, small traces of use and natural colour variations consistent with age, material and use.
