Old Japanese Bamboo Hanging Basket / Harvest Basket, 1950s
Decorative old Japanese bamboo basket from the 1950s.
Dimensions: height 23 cm, diameter 53 cm.
The basket is handwoven in bamboo and has a round, open shape with a beautiful geometric weave. The wide wrapped rim, the alternation of light and dark bamboo strips and the original rope suspension give the piece a strong decorative character.
This type of open bamboo basket was used in Japan as a harvest or drying basket. Thanks to its airy structure, the basket was practical in use and easy to hang.
Today, this basket is above all a beautiful interior accent. It can be used standing as a decorative bowl for textiles, paper goods, dried flowers or small objects, but also works beautifully as a hanging basket, for example with a plant, or as a natural accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, rustic, country-style or eclectic interior.
The basket is in lovely vintage condition, with normal signs of use and age consistent with its material and original function.
A warm Japanese everyday object with plenty of character, natural texture and a strong decorative presence.
