Mid-Century Kagamijishi Kabuki Doll – Japan, 1950–1970
Authentic Japanese doll depicting a scene from the famous Kabuki dance Kagamijishi (The Lion Dance).
Dimensions: height 22.5 cm, width 21 cm, depth 16 cm.
The figure stands on a wooden display and is dressed in a richly detailed silk and gold brocade costume. With her long white hair, expressive face, and the flower she holds in her hand, she represents the young maiko who, in the dance, transforms into the mythical lion.
The original name plaque with the inscription 鏡獅子 (Kagamijishi) has been preserved.
Crafted with refined attention to detail, this doll embodies both the dramatic aesthetics of Japanese Kabuki theater and the long tradition of creating ornamental figures.
A remarkable and expressive piece that captures the beauty of Japanese performing arts and craftsmanship – an authentic eye-catcher in any interior.
