Japanese Kimono Display Hanger with Faceted Frame, 1950s
This Japanese kimono hanger (ikō) is an elegant, folding textile display with a slender form and a quietly understated presence.
Dimensions: height 136 cm, width 73 cm, depth 2.5 cm.
The uprights and rails have a subtly faceted profile that catches the light beautifully and gives the piece added precision and refinement. The upper ends rise gently, while the base is carefully finished with well-shaped feet. The whole is finished in a deep maroon lacquer, which further emphasizes its crisp linear silhouette.
Originally designed to air and present kimono properly, it is now also particularly well suited to displaying textiles, a scarf, indigo cloth, a quilt, or other decorative fabric.
Its open construction keeps the piece light and graphic, allowing the hanger to function as a strong sculptural accent even without textile, whether in a minimalist, Japanese-inspired, or more layered interior. Thanks to its hinged folding structure, it is easy to place and compact to store.
Condition: good, honest condition with light wear and minor rubbing to the lacquer consistent with age and use.
Shipping & pickup: pickup in Antwerp possible; worldwide shipping on request.
