Porcelain 'Matsu' Hibachi, Japan, Shōwa period.
Highly decorative porcelain hibachi (Japanese brazier) with a stylized pine motif (Matsu).
Dimensions: Height 25 cm, Diameter 26 cm. In perfect condition.
This hibachi is signed by the maker and was given as a gift in 1978. Pine trees (Matsu) are often used in Japanese art as symbols of longevity, endurance, and resilience, thriving even in harsh conditions.
The brush-like strokes evoke a natural and elegant aesthetic typical of Japanese ceramics, with a simplicity that highlights the detailed pattern, reminiscent of sumi-e (ink painting).
Originally used to heat rooms and prepare tea, hibachis are now popular as decorative objects and collector’s items, often repurposed as plant stands or integrated into interior décor due to their historical and artistic value.
