Sculptural Japanese Industrial Wooden Interior Object, c. 1930–1950

A heavy Japanese industrial wooden element, originally part of a larger pulley or lifting construction.

Dimensions: height 36.5 cm, diameter 33 cm. Weight: 24 kg.

This massive object has a powerful cylindrical volume with deep horizontal profiling, a central axle opening and several old mounting holes on the top. The dark wood shows pronounced signs of use, natural cracks, wear, old colour variations and a rich patina built up through years of intensive use. The layered form and subtle contrast between almost black wood and warmer reddish-brown worn areas give the piece a strong architectural presence.

Today, this object works beautifully as a sculptural interior element. It stands powerfully on its own in a sober, minimalist or contemporary interior, but can also become part of a composition with ceramics, art, ikebana, a plant or bonsai. Through its weight, form and timeworn surface, it feels raw, quiet and refined at the same time.

A distinctive Japanese utilitarian object that still clearly reveals its industrial origin, yet today stands out above all as a decorative object with character, texture and presence.
